About Me

Writing/production experience

I'm a journalist with over eight years' experience in radio and print. I am currently the state political reporter for 4BC/4BH.

I write media releases, publicity material, newsletters and other copy - primarily for two arts/performance groups, the Brisbane Arts Theatre and ImproMafia.

I have had travel articles published in several magazines, including the YHA Backpackers Essentials.

I believe in an economic but inspiring use of the English language. Radio journalism has taught me the value of words; print writing and blogging has reinforced my love of imagery, lyricism and humour in writing.

I charge reasonable rates for freelance writing (including copywriting), and deliver quality work promptly.

Performing/MC experience

I have over 15 years experience in acting, 10 years in improvisation and 3 years in directing.

I have acted and directed primarily at the Brisbane Arts Theatre. The 2009 production of John Birmingham's He Died With a Felafel in His Hand that I directed made a profit of $30,000 for the theatre. I directed the sequel The Tasmanian Babes Fiasco for its April world premiere at the BAT in April/May 2010. It made a profit of $20,000 for the theatre. In November 2011, the third in the trilogy, How To Be A Man, premiered at the BAT.

My improvisation has taken me to Sydney (with Impro Australia), Melbourne (with Impro Melbourne), London (with The Spontaneity Shop) and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. I am the current Artistic Director of ImproMafia, Brisbane's premiere comedy company specialising in improvisation. Our shows include the schlock medical comedy Prognosis: Death!, the murder mystery Agatha Holmes and the period piece Jane Austen: By the Book.

I have been a regular MC at impro and theatre events since 2000. I regularly MC at ImproMafia's short-form comedy shows The Speakeasy (at Casablanca) and On the Spot (at the Albion Comedy Club), at corporate functions and comedy debates. In 2009, I worked with Netball Queensland as MC for their pre-game corporate functions and their end of year dinner. In 2010, I hosted orientation sessions on "Australian Culture" for international students at the University of Queensland; and hosted the Queensland Young Volunteers Awards in September. I again hosted the QYV Awards in October 2011.

I am a professional and friendly public speaker.
