End Times

It's Boxing Day, and I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.

I'm working today....and there's been NOTHING about. Cricket and the Sydney to Hobart. That's pretty much it.

Except....

About five hours ago an earthquake at least 6.8 on the Richter scale hit the Aceh province in western Indonesia. It's killed at least nine people there, but....

TSUNAMIS!

They're everywhere - they've swept away tourists from beaches from Thailand to Sri Lanka. It's incredible. Can you imagine lying on your beach towel, hearing some concerned squeals, then looking up and seeing a 5 or 6 metre wave bearing down on you? Shudder.

The most ironic thing is it's exactly a year since an earthquake around 6.7 hit the Iranian city of Bam, killing over 30 000 people. Their city is still a pit of rubble, and now residents say there is drug, alchol, child and organ trafficking happening because of the collapse of the city and rules etc.

I hope there will be some kind of aid set up to help these poor countries in South-East Asia - Aceh has been war torn for ten years and Bangladesh is constantly having the crap beaten out of it by the weather.

Nat.
