Be My Limping Valentine

Due to last weekend's Sydney trip, covering state parliament for work, and rehearsals for He Died with a Felafel in His Hand, I completely missed Valentine's Day.

The Wah surprised me at midnight Friday by presenting me with a tiny glass-blown giraffe that he'd sneakily picked up at Taronga Zoo (he'd "forgotten" his mobile phone in the gift shop, but it was all a ruse! A ruse!). I adore giraffes, and it was a beautiful little gift. But I had zilch for him. Zip. Nada. Three parts of sweet eff ayy.

The thing is, I'm really not fussed by Valentine's Day. I don't expect masses of roses, or chocolates, or weekends away, or dinners for two at some overpriced, overblown restaurant where you're expected to tip, even though this is Australia and goddammit I'm cheap and I don't want to.

Now I could be considered unusual. I like to think it makes me THE MOST AWESOME GIRLFRIEND EVER, but you'd need to double check that with The Wah.

Speaking of said significant other, he had other plans for Valentine's Day. Plans that involved a lot of physical exertions.

I was not involved in these plans.

No, The Wah decided to go walking. For eight hours.

Why, you ask? And where did he end up? You can find the answers to these questions - and many more - over at his blog. It's a most interesting read.

  1. Not really fussed about the day means to me you know you are happy and cared about and don't need a certain day for this to be confirmed. Always a great place to be. Loved The Wah's blog, wondering about the whole walking until you drop but each to his own.

  6. I tend to ignore Valentines day, neither of us think it's terribly important. But we accidentally ended up having quite a nice day anyway by default of it being the first time in a while both of us weren't working.

  7. I'm thinking people completely miss the point about V. Day. Shouldn't it be about appreciating that you have someone in your life, rather than measuring that relationship by what gifts or events happen on that day?

    Just askin' is all.

  8. Dammit! I want expensive gifts!

Gilded rose petals carried by chocolate coated eunichs!

A ten foot tall faberge egg made from smaller faberge eggs.

    Now THAT's love!

  10. There was a recent post on the Fuck You Penguin blog about giraffes. There's a baby giraffe. It's absurdly cute. The blog is hilarious. There's a link back at my blog if you can't find it.

  13. Hey Moko - sorry, I got asked to take it down. It's part of a festival application, and it's not the best quality.

Having said that, it's still on YouTube for all to see:

Hopefully I'll put it back up again soon.
